2023 Log
Welcome to 2023. New Year, New Log. Lets see how I keep busy in 2023 (I usually publish this early and update it almost daily).
- Start of April ended up rear ending someone and causing enough damage to total that barely 6 month old vehicle.
- Replaced the 2022 with a 2023 of the exact same make and model and add-ons, with a slightly better deal payment wise. Still really sucked overall though.
- Got a pretty nice 6% raise, Boss who had been there 25ish years quit though.
- Spent 2 weeks around Halloween at Disney World and Universal Studios.

2022 Log
Another year ended and I get to start a new log, they got quite long didn’t they. Now I’m working a new job and will have less time for games and shows, so maybe this years log will be shorter. It’s neat to look back at what I played and watched. I still intend to keep it up for the foreseeable future anyways. So here is the 2022 log.
- New Years Day started off with a major snowstorm and subzero temperatures. I hope this isn’t a sign of what the year will bring. XD
- I have succesfully put custom firmware on both a PS Vita and a 3DS. Using this to digitally install my entire physical collection onto SD Cards, my portable gaming needs are definitely met.

2021 Log
Well, it happened. 2020 ended and I’m still on work from home. Either way, I liked having my log so much I intend to keep it up for the foreseeable future anyways. So here we go, the 2021 log.
- Right at new years, I’m starting to broadcast some of my gaming on Twitch. I even picked up a capture card to stream Switch games.
- The Reddit stock market drama is pretty fun. I had $12 sitting in my investing account, not in any stocks or anything, just leftover. I yolo’d $10 of it into NAKD on Jan 27th for 9 shares when Reddit was dropping names. I woke up on the 28th to sell it for $22 just before it started to dip again. I’m not an investor, I just have a few long-term stocks for various reasons. Will I try to take my $22 higher before the shenanigans end? Yes, I’ve got it to $26, nothing crazy. The whole thing seems to have died out now and I’m waiting for the market to normalize before I try to raise my bank further.
- End of March I have begun a bitcoin mining adventure. I finally learned how to get it going after years of wanting to.
- August, we replaced my parents water softener. Very minor plumbing and learned something about water softeners.
- First week of September was spent at my sisters family’s house in Colorado Springs. Spent time with my niece, went to castle rock outlet mall, fixed their fence gate, took a day to go up and see the cabin my father spent summers at as a kid, went to Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.
- October, I bought a bicycle cheap off Facebook marketplace for $50, for now it’s better than the $250+ alternative new bikes which I can always trade up to later if I decide. I know it’s about to get cold. I’ve been repainting the frame since it was scratched up pretty bad.
- Wound up going Disc Golf Oct 10, enjoyed it and will probably go again. (Definitely have been back a few times)
- Definitely riding that beginning of the year stock meme high and continuing with crypto investments. Shiba and Saitama. Diamond Hands Army lets go.
- End of November I finally got hired for a new job, as it seems the final stretch of my old job going out of business draws nearer. Just in time I would say. From what I wasn’t supposed to hear, I don’t want to be at the old job much longer. I even managed to luck out with the new job and get something better than I imagined. Now I just have to do it well enough to keep it.
- Finally finished painting 4 D&D miniatures I started years ago and was doing off and on. Trying to finish as many unpainted miniatures as I can. So I can stop replacing inks and move on. I don’t know if I’ll ever play again, I’d like to, but since I’m not playing I just want to finish what I have and not worry about painting any more. Got 3 more finished after that, still like 4 or 5 in my storage unpainted.

The Wonders of Sea of Thieves Rejoin Session Feature
I just want to stress how awesome the rejoin session feature is after an experience I had today.
Recently, I have been running the Tall Tales in Sea of Thieves as a solo player, I always wanted to get each on done the five times you have to do them for max completion, Quarantine work from home is still going for me so I have had time to finally sit down and do one two or three a day. I am finally on the final one Shores of Gold. I ran it once today already and mysteriously gained 20k gold for the Gold Hoarders skull instead of the normal 10k gold. Turns out this is a double gold and reputation weekend. Such a revelation spurred me on to do it two more times and complete it once and for all.
On the second run, I sailed up while finding a collectors chest along the way to make collecting tokens quicker. I had already grabbed two tokens and was on my way to the third when disaster struck. The power in my apartment went out long enough, a second or two, to shut down literally everything. I was pissed, and rightfully so. dreading the half hour to sail back and start over. I really wanted to finish my tall tales while the Gold Hoarders skull was worth 20k, so I turned my Xbox back on and logged back in.
To my surprise, the game asked me if I wanted to rejoin my session, I have seen this option when playing with friends and getting disconnected, an easy quick back in to my crew and ship. My heart began to show hope, but surely the few minutes I have been off now were enough to lose my ship and server, so I clicked yes to rejoin session with hope in my heart.
Success, amazing wonderful success, I was placed back on my ship unmoved in the Shores of Gold, it took me a few minutes to run back over and find where my collectors chest was dropped and I happily continued on my way through my Tall Tale having lost absolutely nothing except maybe 5-10 minutes of time.
The Rejoin Session feature is valuable and indispensable, and I wish many other games both single and multiplayer would make use of how it works because sometimes autosave just isn’t enough.
As a side note, due to the double gold and reputation weekend, I received 16k gold for completing the tale and 20k gold for the skull. That’s 36k gold for each time through. I was originally planning to do this at one run a day and finish sometime next week, but there is no better time to do the final Tall Tale than a double gold weekend so I might as well just keep running it today.
Animal Crossing New Horizon’s Designs
I have been making designs for New Horizon’s, it’s finally time to get some of them off of the switch and post them. I redid my old Invader Zim designs for New Horizon’s with the new movie ‘Enter the Florpus’ alternates. An Original FF7 Aerith. A Kimono I had made a few weeks ago during the Cherry Blossom Festival, and a few custom designs I use such as the face I use on my character (with eyebrows matching the orange hair color and beauty mark) and a phone case that looks like a Game Boy. Designer Code: MA-0193-2120-5265.
Animal Crossing – A Look Back
Here we sit about a month into New Horizons being out. Today I decided to load up the old games and check on town’s that I haven’t touched in years. I wanted to see how the games and my old houses looked and basically reminisce. If you want to know more about the games, look them up further, I’ll only have basic house-related information here, I’m mostly just showing off my houses of past games here.
Animal Crossing (GameCube):
The Original Animal Crossing for the GameCube, this came out in 2001. I didn’t play this one much, I think I bought this after playing Wild World for a bit, I didn’t have many items and only one room at my house. I have no memory of this town name or what it might relate to. Saving was done at the Gyroid outside the house. This game was split up into screens instead of one big scrolling outdoor area. If you don’t play for a long time, weeds grow throughout town and roaches infest your house and you have to walk on them to kill them.
What a mess.
Wild World (DS)
This was the first Animal Crossing I really played, Wild World came out for the DS in 2005. Back in these days, my main character was always named Sasuke, man I was really into Naruto back then. Apparently, I couldn’t even spell the town name correctly. At this point, there were 4 rooms on the main floor, a second floor, and an attic that was where all the characters slept. Beds were where you went to save. There was no basement here. I seem to have had a tendency to cram each room as full as I could. In Wild World bed head hair was added to roaches and weeds as a result of not playing for a long time.
I had made all 4 characters. OMG, the bed head after sleeping for over a decade. Haha, I remember this spot where I berried items temporarily. First Floor, Main Room First Floor, Left Side First Floor, North Side First Floor, Right Side Second Floor
City Folk (Wii)
I was incorrect on when this came out, I thought it was before Wild World. City Folk came out for the Wii in 2008. At one point in time, I stopped liking Sasuke as a character name and switched to Kuro, which has been my screen name and such since. Apparently, that happened sometime during City Folk since I have characters with both screen names. More references, Trandr was actually a reference to the Dr Tran animations. City Folk Had 3 floors not counting the attic, there were no side rooms on the main floor. The internet tells me this is how it was in the original game.
Trandr was a Dr Tran reference. Again, the bed head after a decade asleep. Main Floor Second Floor Attic The Coolest Basement Ever
New Leaf (3DS)
New Leaf came out for the 3DS in 2012 and is probably the one I played the Most. Isabelle came along in New Leaf to assist the player in the mayor duties. She would take care of things like weeds when you didn’t play for a long time, it’s been about 7 years and there were no weeds when I logged in, I guess Isabelle is the mayor now. I named the town Pokke after the village in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, one of my favorite games I used to play with some great people. I went all out with decorating the town and using patterns, like the waterway pictured. A lot of my designs you can find in other posts here with the QR codes for them, they can also be transferred to New Horizons (I have moved them over myself). I also hope the Nintendo themed items find their way into New Horizons at some point. I need to stop packing my rooms with items just to show them off and actually make some nice-looking rooms for once, although my New Leaf house doesn’t seem that bad compared to the others.
Pokke is a reference to Monster Hunter I’m so sorry Isabelle You have done a fantastic job. I definitely made use of the patterns this game. First Floor, Main Room First Floor, Left Side First Floor, North Side First Floor, Right Side Second Floor The Other Coolest Basement Ever
COVID-19 Corona Quarantine 2020 Log
I live in the Midwest, and we aren’t under official lockdown yet. I have been off since March 16th and I have now decided to make a small log of the things I have been doing while I stay home during this time.
This started as something I thought would only last a few weeks and then maybe through summer, now it’s almost turning into a 2020 log. If this continues past December before I go back to the office or find a new job, then I might make a second post for 2021 just to split things up because this is getting long (looks like a second 2021 post is going to happen, except for pre-march I enjoyed doing this list this year and might continue these every year regardless).
- I spent the first week doing a deep spring cleaning of my apartment. I removed every object from my shelves and dusted. I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom top to bottom bleaching surfaces. I vacuumed everywhere, and the entryway was recently steam cleaned. I started washing every piece of clothing that needed to and had been outside, like the hoodies I wear to work.
- Two days after being let off work, my washer died and I had to head on over to Nebraska Furniture Mart to buy a new one so I could finish washing all my clothes.
- I spent one full Saturday getting my car washed and cleaned inside and outside. It also has a full tank of gas from right when we got sent home (just in case).
- Since we aren’t on full lockdown yet, I was trying to go on almost daily walks to continue getting a minimum of exercise. Almost daily, it’s hard to force myself to go do that, I’ve never liked exercise or sports. Working a Pokemon Go stop into my circle.
- I’ve been to my parents a few times since we are all still healthy. Helped dad with yard work after we cleaned cars, went for dinner and to watch the latest Star Wars movie one time, etc.
- The first video game I have completed during this time was Death Stranding, I spent 80 hours on it and have all but 3 trophies. Death Stranding is an excellent game with an interesting story about life, death, people, and the connections that bring us all together with a somewhat weird science fiction story holding it all together. It also has an amazing soundtrack I keep listening to.
- I spent a few hours cleaning up 2 decades worth of bookmarks in my browser. Checking which sites still existed and deleting bookmarks for those that don’t or were not relevant anymore, etc. Basically, deleting dead links and reorganizing everything.
- A Month into Corona-Break, I tried to go to the bank drive-through to cash a check, and my car battery was dead. I spent my afternoon and about $100 replacing it. I did at least get the check cashed.
- I spent a day helping dad clean out the shed.
- Last Fall I spent months ripping my DVD collection to my computer so I could stream them to my TV and not have to pull out the DVDs when I want to watch them. I have started ripping my father’s DVDs for him. I also have been able to chop up every cartoon series that ripped off into hours long cuts down to their individual episodes.
- Spent Mothers Day at My Parents House. Yep, Still off work and distancing at home 2 months later…
- Put together parent’s new patio furniture.
- At the beginning of June work finally contacted and had us start writing up some plans. What seems to be the beginning of an attempt to get us working from home, or hopefully back to work soon.
- My birthday comes and goes and we haven’t returned to work yet, even though we are kind of doing some reports from home. As much as I like having a 3-month break, I kind of hate not going anywhere and this is getting ridiculous. Also, I got a new phone for my birthday because the battery was draining fast and sometimes calls weren’t coming through.
- Fourth of July was interesting without going to a fireworks show, but many more people shot them off at home this year which kind of sucks if you hate the noise.
- Sister came to visit, so everyone could meet her kid. We went to the zoo one day, that was weird with half of it being closed and everyone in masks. wasn’t as empty as I thought it would be though.
- End of September and I helped my father re-level the tree ring bricks and put up gutter covers on the house.
- Went to my sisters for thanksgiving for just over a week.
- Merry Christmas, had a nice day with just my parents and grandma instead of the big family gathering at my aunts.
To further expand on my quarantine adventures (I will update this as quarantine goes on)…

Animal Crossing Image Converter
I was playing around with this Animal Crossing Image Converter and QR Code Generator today https://acpatterns.com/editor. Whether it works or not completely depends on the image. You can also get amazing results by dividing images into 2×2 or 3×3 grids and producing multiple parts to make a larger image. I also like that the newest game lets you make part of the design transparent. Here are some of my results from messing around:

Pokemon Sword
I am almost finished with my Pokemon Sword Living Dex and want to take this time to address my complaints with the game. I have put well into 90 hours into Pokemon Sword, and I don’t want anyone to think I didn’t enjoy the game, but I do have some issues as a long time fan who has been playing since Red and Blue. Honestly, Dexit isn’t even one of the thing’s I care about, I enjoy the chance to try new pokemon by being forced away from my mainstays.
- Lack of GTS – Global Trade was the best thing ever. To have nothing like that in this game is making it very difficult or me to complete my Dex. Surprise Trade just doesn’t cut it, and Link Trade is basically Suprise Trade 2. Please for the love of god bring back the GTS.
- Trading with Friends – A genuine lack of any way to connect to a specific person. Apparently, to trade with friends, you have to use link trade and set a link code which is 4 digits long. Sounds easy enough, but there is a possibility you can connect to someone else using that same code. The biggest feature of pokemon is trading and battling, why do we have to make specific non-random trading as hard as possible?
- Rivals – I’m just going to go ahead and say that Pokemon Sword doesn’t even have a rival. Rivals has been an ongoing problem for quite a few Gen’s now. Rivals have gone from threats to now Hop just outright loses to everyone. Bede was more of a rival than anyone in the last few generations of Pokemon. Bring Back Gary Oak who would always show up at the most inopportune times to ruin your day. Rivals and Gym Leaders were the only difficult battles, so in a way, we’ve lost most of the game’s difficulty.
- Gym Leaders – Never have more than 4 pokemon, I can’t think of a single NPC outside of maybe Leon who actually had a full party of 6. Just more ongoing issues in how these games have absolutely zero difficulty. This region even treats Battles like a national sport, I equated it to European Soccer Culture once, yet no one takes the time to flesh out a team. It’s no wonder Leon was undefeated.
- Trainers – Where did they all go? I’m used to routes being packed full of opposing trainers to battle, but every route in this game seems to have maybe 5 max. Are people not allowed to train and battle unless they are doing the gym challenge? Is every one of those trainers on each route a challenge employee? Is this the most peaceful region in the Pokemon universe?
- Bike Outfits – Like the pokemon ride outfits before them, they are completely ugly and I wish they didn’t exist. I understand the league uniforms but who seriously takes the time to change their clothes before a bike ride other than serious marathon competitors. I’d like to have the bike outfit removed or have better options for it rather than just a color change.
- Clothing Choices – I loved it when they added character customization back in the 3DS games. However, I feel like Pokemon Sword has the worst and least amount of clothing choices and hairstyles so far. I was barely able to find any I liked in this game. I’m not sure why they can’t add to the list instead of starting over each generation with a new list of clothing. I know they are trying to have each region have it’s own fashion, but I’d love to see the options continue to grow instead of dwindle. I’m sure the Pokemon world has online shopping and global shipping.
- Hallways – Every route is pretty much a straight line with little to no deviation. It is impossible to get lost. Let me also list Spikemouth as the most disappointing city ever, a literal alleyway and nothing else. Even the Wild Area is pretty small and straight forward. I saw a chart about all the wasted map space and have to agree. There are a couple of small open areas, but there isn’t much to any o them. On a side note, all the routes felt quite short to me.
- Lack of Touchscreen Use – Ever since the DS introduced a touch screen we have been able to select menus and attacks or whatever by touching the screen. The Switch has a touch screen, so why remove that option now? it’s hard to go back to not having a touch screen option after it existing for so long on the handheld games.
I do enjoy these games as a diversion from the normal as opposed to the way Sun and Moon did it. Sun and Moon had a nice region without gyms and a league atmosphere at least until they ruined it by starting a league at the end, they tried to deviate from the stale old story of villains and gyms but just wound up repeating that anyways.
Sword and Shield nicely ditch the evil organization route for a region where Pokemon Battles are a massive sport. I will complain about all the evil organization bits they dangle in your face and never let you go near because “that’s for adults”. Why dangle that in our face if you aren’t going to let us participate. I would rather it have been left out and just stuck to the Sports story, I do understand however with post-game that dangerous happenings become the job of the champion and I guess that is the story’s way of saying “let the champion handle it”.
My Weekend at the local Anime Convention with a Game Boy
I go to a local Anime Convention every year, this was my 8th year. I cosplay for this convention, I’m not going to post those here, that’s not the point of this. My first cosplay I did for two years, Kirito from Sword art Online, Kirito wasn’t common when I cosplayed him and I was the only one at my con with both swords, and when I saw him become common like Pokemon trainers and Misty I stopped. After that, I did a year or two as Frank West from Dead Rising with a friend as Chuck Greene. This was Followed by Dragon Ball Super Trunks with the blue hair, I cosplayed him three years in Conjunction with Frank West. Last Year I spent months putting together Monster Hunter armor I have always wanted, technically it’s not completed as I found some things to fix when I was actually wearing it around the con. This year I was lazy and still haven’t fixed/finished that monster hunter armor, I put together a lazy Sunday cosplay I have always wanted…Captain N the Game Master!
I know Captain N is extremely simple, I wore around my normal daily jeans and black/white sneakers, paired with a $5 yellow shirt and a varsity jacket I sewed an ‘N’ onto. Pair that with an NES controller belt and a Zapper and call it good. I took apart a Zapper and cleaned it up real nice, I learned some things about the inside of a Zapper during this…
First of all, there are two metal weights inside the Zapper that give it it’s hefty feel. Up top, we have two half-circle pieces of metal taped together in the barrel so the light can still pass through. In the handle, is an inch-long brass weight. The second thing I learned is that the cable you plug into the NES itself has a connector on the end of the circuit board, this means that you can use one of these controllers for cosplay and reattach the cable later or that you could replace a broken cable if you found one that still worked.
Having cleaned up a Zapper for this cosplay, I finally motivated myself to buy some security bit screwdrivers to open up my Game Boy. I have two Game Boy’s; both have pixel lines that do not show up. I took one of these Game Boys and cleaned it up for use, one has a single-pixel line out, the other has multiple throughout the screen. Someday I will go and fix these, I have seen the fix online and it looks easy and seems like it can be done as often as necessary, from what I understand it is just reheating the solder without touching the board to reconnect the screen. At this point, I have a nicely cleaned up Zapper and Game Boy. I just used a silicon brush under running tap water.
I had planned on and started getting what I needed to be Captain N before I even started doing my weekly posts about the games I had as a kid. As time went along and I picked up the Jacket and patch, or as I cleaned up the Zapper…my weekly posts were reminding me how fun those games were and making me want to play them again. I still have to finish games such as Astra Chain, but I spent the last month being lazy and not playing many games. I spent most of the last month rewatching Captain N and Space Dandy.
So, as I was doing all of this, about a week or so before the con I got this bright idea…”I’m only going to take a Game Boy and only play that during the con”. So, I got my Game Boy, my Flash Cart, a Game Boy Camera and a pack of batteries. I didn’t even need the pack of batteries; the initial 4 batteries lasted all weekend. Get this though, I played a lot between panels or in the autograph line, I went through almost all of Super Mario Land 2 and got a decent start on Final Fantasy Adventure. The Original Game Boy had amazing battery life, it was supposed to be anywhere from 10-30 hours depending on games and such. I would have to have charged my 3DS or Switch multiple times over the weekend, 3DS has a battery life of about 4 hours.
Now, like I said the first thing I played was Super Mario Land 2. I went most of the way through the game, I completed up to entering Mario’s Castle getting the door open. The convention, unfortunately, was not the place for me to focus on getting through the castle, I will do that here at home. Then I was looking for another game to play casually and landed on Final Fantasy Adventure, I never owned it as a kid but I tried to play it a few times and never reached the first town. The game is a bit difficult to start, it basically begins with two boss fights, and then forces you to get to the first town all with about 19hp. You can save at any time you want, but I couldn’t heal until the first town. Now, part of this is me just not knowing how to play the game and you have to realize I wasn’t looking up how to play either. I finally figured out about an hour or so in how to actually use items.
Aside from a few minutes in the way overcrowded game room playing an SNES Mini, I actually spent the entire weekend only playing my Original Grey Brick Game Boy, and it was the most fun I’ve had playing games lately. I played games from my childhood and game I would like to have had as a child. I spent the whole weekend between my cosplay, my game choices and the way I played those games like I was a kid again. A kid with a low-resolution blurry LCD screen you can’t see in the shade, with no internet help on how to get all the secrets or beat the boss.
I got more looks and questions about the Game Boy than I did my cosplay. A few people recognized Captain N, but I think most people, especially those under 30, just didn’t even know who he is. I saw on person I should have talked to who I believed was one of the virus Captain N’s from toward the end of season 2 where Kevin gets sick with a Videoland Virus, but I didn’t realize that until a bit later. More people, mostly those in my age group, were much more interested in what I was playing.
Oh yeah, remember how I said one of the things I took with me was a Game Boy Camera? I don’t have the fancy somewhat expensive contraption the download the images from my cartridge to my pc, but I have a cellphone camera…
