July 27, 2013 Pickup

I got a good haul today in my opinion and had a lot of fun at the same time. So here we go, stop number 1 where our friend works, he saved me the ET cart from a seven tote buy-in, this is my 7th. I also grabbed the two Dream cast games you see below, Crazy Taxi and Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram. I’ve never played either, but they look fun. Stop Number 2 is where I picked up my 8th ET cart.

They got a lot of new stuff here as well this week, I grabbed Rygar and Bomber man. On the way to the register, we noticed a glass case full of boxed games that were new, so I grabbed The Rocketeer, it’s just a box and the cart, but for $7 who could pass it up. Our third stop is where I grabbed Lego Racers, I’ve been looking for a decent copy to play. I love the game: I still have the jewel case for the PC version even though the CD is long gone. I’m mostly done with PC games, I can’t play the ones from 15-20 years ago without fixes that only half work, so wanting to play this again forced me to get a console version. That is my haul for this week, farewell until next time from someone who is going to make himself known as ‘That Guy Who Collects ET Carts’.

FireRed Nuzlocke Part 4

Day 9:

Leveled Dosbiscus (Oddish) up to 21 evolving him to Gloom, Zubat to 21, and everyone else to 20. Then challenged Misty. Dosbiscus completely obliterated Misty. Cascade Badge obtained. Guess I’ll go south and check out that party Bill told me about.  Oh look, this rocket member stole someone’s Dig TM, guess I’ll teach him a lesson…Thanks, it’s my TM now. Moving South, Route 5…Ooooo a Pidgey, nicknamed ‘YianGaruga’ and to the bench with you.

There appears to be a Day Care for Pokemon here, I have no use for you right now so goodbye until later sir. The road is closed, what BS is this I need to get south how am I supposed to do that now…oh underground tunnel. What, is Saffron such a horrible place that people want to bypass it completely? oh well, lucky me or I’d be stuck for now.

Route 6, Another Pidgey, nicknamed ‘Gypceros’ and to the bench with you.

Ah, Vermilion City, let’s take a look around, shall we? Hello sir… do I like to fish… well sure why not… oh, thank you for the fishing rod. Next, a Pokemon Fan Club, man this chairman talks forever just rambling on, oh a bicycle ticket… shouldn’t this be worth a lot of money? Diglett Tunnel eh, let’s see where this goes…oh look a Diglett no surprise, nicknamed ‘Diablos’ and to bench for now until I can go switch out for you. Oh, Vermilion Forest is where this leads, hm, a tree blocks my way I will have to come back later. I shall return to Vermilion then. Oh sweet, Remobra (Zubat) evolved into Golbat on the way back.

Alright, one last thing I want to do today, might as well catch one last thing for a while. Route 11, aw another Ekans, I’m getting tired of repeats. Oh well, nicknamed ‘Lagiacrus’ and to the box with thee. Back to the Poke Center, switch Kut-Ku for Diablos, and tomorrow I shall level him to party level.

Day 10:

Diablos is leveled up, cleaned up all the trainers on Route 11, time to head over to that party on the SS Anne. Wait one damn minute, this is no party this is a battle fest, everyone here wants to fight, their mistake. Son of a Douche, even he is here, well I’ll just clean his clock once again and teach him to leave me the hell alone, then I’m going to go have a word with the captain of this dinghy.  A sea-sick old man, what captain of a boat gets sea-sick, at least this loser gave me the cut HM. I’m out of here.

Day 11:

I’m told the third gym is here. Let’s go do that next…Surge is probably the lamest gym leader so far, all of his Pokemon each one-shot by Diablos. Whelp, done here so back to Cerulean to get me a free bicycle, why are these things so expensive otherwise. Moving on, Route 9 yet another Ekans nicknamed ‘Agnaktor’ and benched. Route 10, yet another Spearow, it fainted…whoop dee do, I don’t even care anymore I’m getting so many repeats of the same few Pokemon. Looks like Rock Tunnel is the only route that will let me move forward, and the first encounter is a Geodude, finally something new…caught. Nicknamed Basarios and benched. Made it through Rock Tunnel fairly easy enough, let a guy teach Rathian rock slide. What’s this, nothing to do in Lavender Town right now? That’s okay, this place is creepy lame and I hear I can get to Celadon soon. Route 8, another Pidgey, nicknamed ‘Khezu’ and benched. Through the bike tunnel and Route 7, a Meowth nicknamed ‘Nargacuga’ and benched. Welcome to Celadon, time to do some shopping, this also seems like a great place to spend a few days resting.

July 21, 2013 Pickup

We met with a friend we made who works at one of the weekly stops. We took him to our normal places, and he showed us his (none of which I will reveal because who wants competition). At our regular places I picked up a few things. what everyone else found has always and will always be up to them to post. I link to all their blogs, but they don’t do finds like me. At our first stop I picked up the neat little DS key chain that actually holds four DS games, I saw it last weekend and wished I had picked it up then. At our other normal stop, I picked up the NES satellite and the game covers, this is the first time they had the NES side of the receiver.

At our game store friends stop I almost picked up Bee 52 for NES, but Futzed around not knowing what we’d find at his other stops. I found nothing else and kind of regret not grabbing it then. I may go back someday, that was a good stop even for just commons to fill out my meager collection.

July 17, 2013 Pickup

No games today but I did pick this up, Skyrim Cardboard Standee Display, had to have it. Picked it up for $10, wasn’t even really looking for anything gaming related, just killing time.

Day 6:

Kut-ku (Spearow) is leveled up to the rest of the party at 16. Time to take a few steps into Mt. Moon, oh look a Zubat. No surprise there, Name…Remobra, and back outside to level you up. Busy today with D&D so that’s it.

By the way. this is the party at the moment. Rathian (Charmeleon), Quropeco (Spearow), Vespoid (Beedrill), Bnahabra (Butterfree), Kut-Ku (Spearow), and Remobra (Zubat).

Some Guy in the Pokemon Center here at the foot wants P500 for a Magikarp. I may not have many Pokemon, but even I know that’s a bad deal. I will wait to get a water type later on, I’m no sucker.

Day 7:

Began my way through Mt. Moon. Relatively uneventful. Team rocket took hold of absolutely nothing and I kicked their sorry butts on a whim. Some archaeologists near the end gave me a Dome Fossil.

On Route 4, on the other side of Mt. Moon I managed to catch an Ekans, I named it Caedeus and it was transferred to my Bench.

Now entering Cerulean City, I hear the Second Gym is here. Also, there is a Bike Shop here, I could buy one if the Lunatic wasn’t asking P1,000,000 for one. Note: May consider stealing one later on.

Day 8:

Heading north, Rival Douche, oh hell no. No, no, no, you go away. Haven’t you learned your lesson yet, well, let’s go. Pidgeotto, took both Spearow’s to drop him, almost lost one. Rattata, 2 shot-ed by Butterfree. Squirtle, confused and helped kill itself. Abra? who uses an Abra, it has no attacks yet. Douche, you are a loser. Whine all you want. Smashed, Ignored, and moving on up the bridge. Oh god, everyone on this bridge wants to battle, and none of them are any good. Oh, a free gold nugget, this was a challenge? Oh, you’re a Team Rocket group and you want me to join? As much as I want to, I work alone and stay away from loser groups. You’re going down harder than the five before you.

Route 24 first encounter is a level 14 Oddish and captured. This will be useful for the Water Gym: I will replace one of the two Spearow’s and level him up. Nicknamed ‘Dosbiscus’.  Quropeco the Spearow goes to the box.

Route 25 first encounter is Abra. Teleported away after failed Poke ball attempt.

A House on the cape? Ah! A TALKING JIGGLYPUFF! Oh, you’re a scientist who screwed up with a teleporter. Question, we could become rich if you stay that way…No? okay fine.

Go to a Gala on the SS Anne for you because you hate parties? wow you really are a nerd. Fine, if I make it on time I will. But I’m going to Cerulean Gym first.

Nuzlocke Rules (For those who don’t know)

In order for some people to understand what I’m doing here with Pokemon Fire Red, I thought I should post this.

For those curious which rules I use, I just follow the basic ruleset. I add in the rules about catching legendary’s and shiny’s to transfer forward, and I “box” not “release” fallen companions to also transfer forward.

First of is the basic ruleset:

*Any Pokémon that faint are considered dead and must be released.
*The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. If the first encounter in the area is a Double Battle in dark grass, the player may choose which of the two Pokémon they would like to catch.
*While not exactly a definite rule, the general consensus is that players must also nickname all of their Pokémon, for the sake of forming stronger emotional bonds.
*Also not a definite rule, but the general consensus is that a blackout/whiteout is considered to be “game over”, even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
*Strongly implied, though not explicitly mentioned in the comic, is the stipulation that you can use only Pokémon you have captured yourself, meaning traded Pokémon, mystery gifts, etc., are prohibited. Trading and retrading the same Pokémon (for the purpose of evolving a Golem, for example) is something of a gray area and may fall under optional rules. As of White: Hard-Mode Episode 3, it is implied that the player can accept Pokémon that are received freely from NPC characters.
*Also strongly implied is a prohibition against voluntarily resetting and reloading the game when things go wrong. Being able to do so would render all of the other rules pointless.

A few extra rules I had to look up clarification on:

*Gift Fossils are legal, as are Fossils found in the desert or caves. (Kabuto/ Archen/ Anorith etc.)
*Pokemon that must be traded in order to evolve (Haunter, Graveler, Machoke, etc.) are perfectly legal, and you may have your friend help you evolve them if you wish.
*Regarding the Eevee that find is Celadon or receive from Bill in Goldenrod City: It is your choice to consider it as an Encounter or not. If you choose, you may either obtain the Eevee and a Pokemon from the Game Corner, OR exclude one or the other. The choice is yours to make.

However, there are also a number of optional rules if you want to make the run harder or more interesting:

*Starter Pokémon is based off the player’s Trainer ID number. If the last number is 1-3 the player starts with a Grass-type, 4-6 is Fire-type, 7-9 is Water type, 0 is the player’s choice.
*Species/Dupes Clause: Adjusting the first encounter rule to ban duplicate captures.
*Not officially enforcing the rules until the player has Poké Balls and can catch Pokémon. For example, the Poochyena’s/Zigzagoon’s that the player has to save Professor Birch from is not counted as the first encounter on the route, and not counting any other encounters as such until they can catch. Likewise, in the games where the rival battle is immediately after getting the starter Pokémon, the “any that faint must be released” rule is not enforced at that time.
*Use the same amount of Pokémon as the opponent during a Gym battle or rival battle.
*Going to options and making the battle style “set”, leaving the player unable to switch out.
*After the first wild Pokémon was caught, the starter Pokémon must be released.
*Banning the use of Potions and healing items, relying only on Pokémon Centers for healing.
*Banning the use of Pokémon Centers, relying only on Potions and healing items for healing.
*Limiting Pokémon Center visits to a certain number per town.
*Banning the use of held items.
*Limiting the number of Poké Balls to purchase per Poké Mart.
*Banning the use of Master Balls.
*Rather than releasing the Pokémon, it can be permanently boxed, migrated, or transferred with Poké Transfer should it happen to faint.
*The player may not evolve captured Pokémon but evolved Pokémon may be caught.
*Turning the difficulty on to Challenge Mode if playing Black 2 or White 2, which increases the levels of opposing Trainers.
*No catching/using legendary Pokémon.
*As a mercy rule, allowing 1-3 “second chances” or revives of fallen team members.
*As another mercy rule, if the player runs into a Shiny Pokémon on the incredibly rare chance, the player may still catch it, regardless of whether or not it is the first encounter in the area. It also does not need to be released if it faints.
*If the player has no Pokémon that can use a certain field move that is required to continue through any given point of the game, they may catch another Pokémon that can learn said field move. However, it cannot be used in battle for any reason, and must be released, permanently boxed, or migrated as soon as the player gets another Pokémon that can use said field move.
*Modifying the “first encounter only” rule for the Safari Zone, sometimes allowing one encounter for each area, or until they catch one Pokémon in the entire area, and vice versa.
*Banning the use of Poké Marts.

FireRed Nuzlocke Part 2

Day 3:

First stop, Pewter City Gym, oh right only one lackey this time…SMASHED.
HOWEVER…My team is Charmander, Spearow, Beedrill, Butterfree. Nothing special to kick Brock’s butt with. The only way I’m going to be able to survive is by Leveling…extensively.

Day 4:

Leveling. (see above, might take a few days, I don’t like leveling but it needs to be done in order to continue. Will probably just stop counting days until then)

Day 5:

With Charmander at level 16 and Butterfree at 15, I was tired of leveling (I get bored of it easily). Thankfully Butterfree, after smashing Brock’s Geodude, Stun Spore and random confused status from confusion made short work of Brock’s Onix.

On the way to mount moon, another Spearow was added to the party. I don’t have a team of 6 yet, so it will be kept in the party for now and leveled up. Standing at the door to Mt. Moon
